The Farthing Wood Voles are among the animals that travel from Farthing Wood to White Deer Park in both the books and the TV series.

In the books, there are many families of voles that make the journey to White Deer Park including Vole, who is the elected leader of the group. The voles travel for most of the journey with their cousins the fieldmice. Along the way, several of the voles and field mice have babies and all the voles decide to stay behind to look after them. However, the babies and some of the adults are killed by a shrike, so the voles and field mice decide to rejoin the group. The voles are among the animals that are carried across the motorway by Whistler. They are also among the group that is left behind when the animals flee from the church, but they are all brought back to the main group by Whistler.

Once in White Deer Park, the voles struggle to survive through the first winter and as a result, only Vole and his mate are alive to see the spring. They are able to reproduce, but in an attack by Scarface in Fox's Feud, all but two of the voles are killed leaving just Vole and one other male. All of the original Farthing Wood voles had died by the start of The Siege of White Deer Park, but they did leave offspring behind meaning Vole and the other remaining male must have found mates within the park.

The ancestors of the Farthing Wood voles appear in Farthing Wood: The Adventure Begins, the prequel set five years before the journey to White Deer Park. In this book several of the voles become infected with disease and in turn infect many of the animals that eat them. This diseases kills the baby otters and several of the other animals including Wily Stoat and Quick Weasel.

TV seriesEdit

In the TV series, only two voles make the journey to White Deer Park; Vole and his mother, Mrs Vole. Unlike in the books, no baby voles are born on the journey but the voles stay behind to help the field mice look after their young. Neither of the voles are killed by the shrike and both reach White Deer Park safely. When the animals flee from the church, the voles get lost on a golf course along with Shrew and Fieldmouse. They are nearly killed by a lawnmower, but they are rescued by Adder and taken back to the main group by Kestrel. Once in the park, Mrs Vole is killed by Scarface during the winter and Vole is revealed to have perished later on. The voles leave no descendants behind after they both perish.
